Living Minute-To-Minute || Poet Veritas

Living Minute-To-Minute

Living minute-to-minute

Waiting for that phone to ring

Watching it and anticipating

As I pace back and forth, restless, anxious...

I can hear the ticking of the clock in the kitchen - it's deafening

I can feel my heat's bounding pulse in my ears

Waiting for that phone to ring

Like a convict getting strapped down for a lethal injection, struggling,

Hoping that the governor will call.

PARADOXICAL PERSPECTIVE - Poet Veritas

PARADOXICAL PERSPECTIVE

Has your life ever become so complicated, so convoluted, so burdensome and fear-filled

that you've wondered if you could be trapped in a nightmare

and tried to blink your eyes

with hopes of

awakening?

RELATIVITY

RELATIVITY

Many years ago, when I was small
and the world was brilliant and vast and new,
tantalizing young hearts with wondrous possibilities,
replete with magical opportunities and sensations
for adventure and breathtaking discovery,
with fabled treasure waiting to be uncovered everywhere
by any innocent wanderer choosing to look;

     Time crawled by languorously
out toward and unfathomable, unreachable infinity,
unhurried and patiently mindful
of every blessed straggler and every scraped knee;

I would walk through the valley
for hours on end, eyes dreaminly closed,
guided by distant laughter and birdsong,
almost afloat on deep, sweet summer perfume,
my lungs drinking in their delirious fill;

Tall blossoms bowed their beautiful heads reverentially
in the dignified presence of the afternoon breeze,
and the mouth-watering smells of supper wafted
purposefully from the red brick village nearby,
with its unlocked doors ajar in invitation
of smiling visits and friendly conversation;

No one was ever truly lost -
No one was ever truly alone -
No one was ever truly a stranger -

Tragedy hadn't even been invented yet.

Insomnia

Insomnia

the dripping of a leaky faucet
which i have to call the plumber about
on a pile of unwashed dishes has me
cogitating over conversations
quite suspicious so i
head down to the kitchen and i
fix myself another snack when i
realize to no surprise that there's no turning back so i
take a deep breath and i
walk over to the computer in my office
off the den where i review
a draft proposal seventeen separate times and then again while in my mind
racing thoughts ruminating on tomorrow's meeting
plan and as to the matter of whether
blue or gray suit will be packed in my luggage and placed in the van
which i have yet to load for a business trip to another city
and then i dash back to the cupboard
where i grab another piece of a delicious but whittled chocolate brownie
that my little girl made for me
and when i glance up at the clock
it's now a quarter after three
and i suddenly remember although i never actually forgot
to set the alarm at my bedside for five
but then on second thought and just to play it safe
i'll probably have to set it for four
and i notice that my slippers are worn through the bottoms
and that i have yet to polish my shoes
and should i shave now or after i wake up
but then the question is rhetorical
as the gap between late night and dawn closes with incredible speed

PROOF OF LIFE

PROOF OF LIFE

This is a test.

If you are reading this, you are alive.

If you are not reading this, you may not know for certain that you are alive.

My proof of life is the essence of a paradox.

This is a test.

VIRUS

VIRUS

i chose you

you did not choose me

although you thought that you had.

hitching a ride, a stowaway on a sleeping chain of nucleic acids,

i needed a womb

i needed a host

to bolster my growth

as i multiply beyond measure by division

and when i am strong enough as we

we will consume you as if in a fire

from the inside out

and leave you an empty vehicle on the side of some untraveled road...

i chose you

knowing your inevitable fate

before you even knew imagined the possibility of my transgression

against a normal birth, like that of those those who were not chosen by me

and you might, before your lights dim at very end,

think, for a fraction of a second,

that i am new to this world

but i am far older than the word "bastard"

and

i chose you

to nourish my growth through your certain death.

REBOOT

REBOOT

When anything mechanical fails to work,

our decision (after exhausting fanciful but futile means)

will be (by default) to shut down the system and restart it.

No one knows quite why this tends (inexplicably) to work

on almost every single device in almost every (otherwise) hopeless situation

but our not knowing doesn't change the fact that it works.

For inanimate, insentient things this is simply called "rebooting";

in the case of humans, it is called Resurrection,

but sadly, this is seldom tried and may only work in (very) isolated cases

(one about which I have only heard glittering rumors),

and when it does, it only repairs, purifies and perfects one soul

out of so many malfunctioning ones.

It is a damnable shame that one of us cannot reboot all of society in this way,

but it would first require a genocide of unfathomable proportions --

and (just as lamentably) it (a world of imperfect and tortured souls)

might not actually work.

I AM THE POWER

I AM THE POWER

I am the power

I am the creator and the prophet

My thoughts and words are my acts of creation, of manifestation

And as I will it, so shall it be.

NEVER APOLOGIZE

NEVER APOLOGIZE

Never apologize;

others will think that you are weak

and feast on your body and mind

until you are a sulking nothing.

Never admit to a lie;

others will question ever word that you have ever said.

THIEVES

THIEVES

You cannot steal from me, as you have so many times before -

I know this much now.

What I possess can never be yours

For the act of your thievery

Transforms what was mine into nothing of value in enemy hands

And that which feeds me shall turn to poison

When you place it in your mouths.

What Will The Neighbors Think?

What Will The Neighbors Think?

I'm getting rather paranoid about my neighbors.

I wonder if they think that my activities are as suspicious as theirs most certainly are.

I worry about what they will think of the goings-on in my house, so I've become very vigilant.

I just don't know whether they are reporting me to a federal agency or not.

Perhaps if I report them first, I'll be spared the wrath of the legal system.

Since I'm more afraid of the legal system than I am of my neighbors,

I'll report my neighbors to the authorities --

If my neighbors are taken out of their house in the middle of the night by the authorities,

Then I won't have to worry about either my neighbors or the federal agencies anymore.

I would suggest that You do the same thing as I'm doing...

Better to be cautious than paranoid.

Wait.

Who are you and why are you reading this?
