RUNNING

RUNNING

running
ceaselessly running,
on and on,
from the moment that I fell into this world;

without a second to catch my breath
pulsing, pounding, scared to death
echoed whinings in my ears
shifting side view, shapeless fears;

dark things in pursuit of me
can't glance back, afraid to see
leaving questions in my wake
every act a grave mistake;

long ago I ran from you
and from the god who made me, too,
and from the hope that was my youth -
I'm tired of running from the truth.
